Roger Wolfson may not be someone who you have heard about, and that is mainly because so much of his work in his career has been behind the scenes. Roger began his career as an attorney and then has since gone on to use his incredible writing ability to forge a career as a scriptwriter, a speech writer, a writing instructor and has even created his very own TV series. Roger is someone who any budding young writer should be looking to emulate, and here is exactly why this man’s career should serve as an inspiration to those young, budding writers.
Taking On All Comers
It seems that within the field of writing there is very little that Roger will not try his hand at, and there is nothing which he is perturbed by. This is something which we cannot say about every writer, as so many will look to stay within their own niche. Roger will think nothing of taking on books, essays and op-eds, and he will comfortably take on TV shows and plenty more. The key to becoming a better writer is not staying in your lane, but rather seeing what other lanes there are and seeking to give them a try.
Learning From Failures
Whist they have not been made public, Roger himself has conceded that there have been some projects which he has worked on that just haven’t worked out in the way that he thought they would. He has also stated that these failures have been critical to his eventual success. When we talk about taking on new challenges and what that means for writers, it comes down to not having a fear of failure. Learning how to cope with potential failure and how to learn from actual failure are two critical skills which all writers should possess.
Following Your Passions
In later years we have seen Roger work in other areas of writing but in the beginning he took his passion for politics and the law, and combined that with his love of writing. What this meant for Roger is that he instantly became valuable because of his high level ability in both areas. Being a great writer is one thing but being able to actually back that up with further knowledge and experience is critical to elevating you above the rest.
Giving Back
Roger’s work as a writing instructor came about because of his love for the craft. This was the motivation which pushed him into that area of his career and again there is something which we can all learn from this. The number of highly successful people who actually give up their time to hand the baton on, is far lower than it should be. Thanks to incredible people like Roger however, this can hopefully be something which more do in the future and there is no doubt that he has already inspired so many young minds.
These are the kinds of people we should all be inspired by.
